The Southern Counties Hockey Association wishes to appoint
an Administrator to assist in the running of the Association.
The Association membership is
the Southern Counties Umpires Association and the county associations of
Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire including the Isle of Wight and Dorset
(men), Kent (men only), Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Sussex and the
counties’ affiliated clubs.
The Association is run by a
Council and a Management Committee.
This an important post suitable for a well-organised person with
an interest in the development of hockey in the Southern Counties.
An honorarium and travel expenses
are offered.
The functions envisaged
are:
In conjunction with the
Association’s Chairman (and Hon Secretary);

devise the agenda for,
attend on, and prepare minutes of the Council.
·
devise the agenda for,
attend on, and prepare minutes of the Management Committee.
·
distribute agenda,
papers and minutes
·
collate reports from
officers and committees of the Association and circulate them to
Council/Management Committee as appropriate.
·
liaise with England
Hockey (EH) as the main point of regular contact to ensure the distribution of
England Hockey information. Scan
minutes of EH committees and extract and circulate relevant information.
·
liaise with the South
Office of England Hockey and EH’s South Development Manager and staff.
·
prepare responses to EH
requests as required by Council/ Management Committee.
·
ensure that
Association policy documents are circulated to counties/leagues/clubs etc.
·
ensure the policy
section of the Association’s web site is kept up-to-date.
Council meets three times
each year one meeting of which is normally associated with the AGM. Management meets as required, normally six
times each year.
There is a regular need for
contact with EH. Initially at least the
person appointed may wish to attend a range of meetings to better understand
the way hockey is managed.
Knowledge of hockey would
be a distinct advantage.
Well organised with
experience of working with committees either in the business or voluntary
sector.
Experience of accounting
for income and expenditure and the use of appropriate computer tools.
Ability to appreciate the
politics of working in a federated sports structure and to understand the
interplay between the full time employees of the national governing body – England
Hockey - and the voluntary sector responsible for the running 90% plus of
hockey at the regional and county level.
The Council and Management
Committee normally meet at Imber Court Thames Ditton in Surrey, as this is
convenient central venue. Normally
meetings are held in the evening.
The EH’s South Office and
EH Headquarters are at the NSC Bisham Abbey nr Marlow.
